In the Trenches
It’s Laundry Day and You Need a Trench
So here’s the deal, the trench coat is just one of those must-have items that should be a staple in your closet. In my opinion, which is often the case for staples, you can’t have too many of them. The origins of the trench coat are up for debate, but regardless of when it started, people have been inspired by this military double-breasted silhouette for hundreds of years. Burberry may be the one that is the most iconic, dating back to 1853 when the fashion house first introduced their unisex coat. Countless brands year after year continue to highlight their version of the trench coat in their lines. The classic trench shape in tones of khaki, navy or black fill the racks every year and still win year after year. When brands take creative liberties with this silhouette and reimagine it with new colors, fabrics or detailing, this staple gets put on its head. Trendy? Yes, but name another garment that can still maintain a classic look with all those extra bells and whistles. The reason I love a trench so much—simple, it is easy to layer with everything and versatlilty is my jam. It is a go-to coat with sweats yet elegant enough for a dress. It is the right amount of weight when the seasons are turning and easy to pack when traveling. It feels neutral and safe without sacrificing style.
I can think of countless ways to style it, here are just a few to get you inspired.
Now take what you have learned and check out a few trenches I love.
