I am in need of a snack that will fuel me with happiness, hope and spontaneity. Great, overload me with YELLOW. Also, I got stuck in an elevator and only brought one color.
Don’t let a big yellow dress overwhelm you in thinking you can’t incorporate it into your everyday attire. This Cecilie Bahnsen dress, found here or here is both girly-girl and the perfect amount of disheveled when paired with a beat up Converse sneaker. An added tank underneath helps double down on the low key vibe. Adding a belt, like my favorite one from Mayle, gives the yellow in this look extra texture and shine. Adding a waist to an already large shape like a baby doll dress can help you feel less puffy and also break up so much of one color. A simple tonal ribbon or my favorite military belt would also work. What else? This dress would look great with a simple sandal and a khaki or cream blazer or short jacket over the top, or of course with a denim jacket, always a win. A simple heel and an open button down is another score. Bottoms up.
I love pink and yellow combos. The key is to pair one bold color with one pale color. Here I used a bolder yellow with a pale pink men’s style shirt. The Ganni half zip sweater looks great paired with navy or white bottoms or jeans, find the sweater here or here. The pairing of the yellow sweater with the pale pink button down looks extra sharp when added with the bold graphic from the Paco Rabenne bag. The key is to continue the soft colors all the way through and add a grounding color in either a belt or a shoe. Here I went with a cream carpenter pant and a navy heel, The navy acts as the grounding color and pulls out the dark accents in the patterned bag. Ciao Bella.
You can’t miss me at the pool or beach in this. Both easy to spot and easy to rescue. I love all the colors from swim line Left on Friday. Their tops and bottoms work well as a matching set or mixed match. This yellow looks great with their light pinks, browns, navy and their new color, jam. All these colors are available in one piece swim suits as well. This neon yellow cardigan layered over the swim is old Akris but you can find a few other ones similar to it here and here.
Jumpsuits; all day every day. Why, because I don’t have to use much of my brain to put together an outfit and trust me I don’t have much brain left. Jumpsuits are great styled on their own but also look great with a simple layer over or under them for a minimal effort, and they work really well in most seasons. This jumpsuit is from Phillip Lim and is a beautiful butter yellow; I love butter so it seemed like a natural fit. I layered a navy turtleneck underneath because it’s freezing and the navy adds a nice simple contrast to the pale yellow. This look would look great with a stripe or a white tee underneath or living solo on its own with sandals or sneakers.
I love a long elegant dress, I can’t help it. I literally have no place to go, ever, but I want to own nothing but dresses like these and get stuck in elevators in them. This marigold yellow beauty is from the talented designers at Tove-Studio. The dress features a unique origami like detail on the top and a long elegant drape that makes me feel like I could out-chic Big Bird.
Yes, that was me. The crazy lady taking out the trash in her robe and sunglasses. Was I also talking to myself? Absolutely. I have been known to wear robes as dresses, just watch the last episode of Stylish with Jenna Lyons. Yes Mom, that was an actual planned look. If you like a robe for life-out or life-in, here and here and here are some of my favorite yellow ones.

There is nothing that brightens my (black, white, grey) inbox like your styling posts, so thank you Sarah! Single mom of a five-year-old here, so v inspired. Thanks for bringing this Big Fashion Energy x Mom Life. Would be funny to see your hot take on styling, inspired by kids TV shows (I feel like Celeste, my babe, would suggest: MLP, Glitter Force, Gabby's Dollhouse, Ada Twist, Scientist).
Sarah C... you are one funny, cool (yellow) burd!!... Bet you made a few people's day when the elevator pinged and out you popped in that bikini!
