Its Laundry Day so here are some tips.
Where do we start? The Men’s Blazer. Traditionally used to keep rowers warm on the water and designed in bright colors and stripes to identify individual rowing teams, also easy for spectators to see them from afar. Rowers started wearing this new style of jackets outside of sport, and clearly everyone from men to women to kids adopted the style. Blazers are offered widely by most brands, in various styles, colors and fabrications; it is a staple for many, including me. My outfit below is our topic of the day, with the hero being the bright yellow satin blazer by Aquilano Ricondì.
Ok great, now what? Due to the vibrancy of this yellow blazer the key to styling was to pair it with a more muted and softer tone, something more feminine that allows for the bolder color to stand on its own. The layer of the pink shirt underneath, the pale lilac pant and the hint of mint in the shoe help further support the cooler pastels within this color family. What’s nice about the JCrew sleep shirt underneath is that, despite being intended for sleep, the casualness of this shirt easily adds sophistication to the structured blazer. This is also a great tip to use for any fussy or tailored item in your closet: wear in a casual way, pair a blazer with a tee shirt, a hoodie or denim.
Ok, but can I wear a wide leg pant? The short answer is yes, but let’s talk how best for each body type… Tall—make sure you don’t wear shoes that are too high, your pants shouldn’t be dragging on the floor or showing off your entire shoe, the hem should graze the floor with just a peek of your shoe showing. Petite—try and get a wide length pant that is also high waisted, it will help with the illusion of length. Depending on your height you may find that ankle length pants will be long enough. Plus—look for pants that neatly show off your curves, not hug so tightly they pull around the crotch and hips. If that is that case try going up in size and a tailor can remove any excess.
General Tips regardless of size/height: Make friends with a tailor at your local dry cleaners; it is a misconception that clothes fit everyone perfectly off the rack. Look for high-waisted wide-legged pants, the higher waist tends to be more flattering and elongating. Proportion is always key when styling with wider legs. Use fitted tops, tuck tops in or use items with shorter lengths so that you emphasize the looseness in your pants and don’t hide your waist in the process. If you are on the smaller side consider shopping the kids departments for blazers or jackets as their proportions will be smaller.

Dirty Laundry: Here are some styling ideas when some of the items from above aren’t so fresh and so clean.
Try styling the yellow blazer with shades of one simple color. Head to toe navy, denim, creams or even stripes would work.
Your sleep shirt can work under most blazers and additionally would look great under a denim jacket. Try laying a white button down underneath for a double shirt look. Overall treat this sleep shirt as any other shirt in your closet.
Your wide leg pant can look sharp with anything from sneakers and a cropped sweater to a heel and a tee shirt, just remain mindful of showing off your waist. Or take these pants to the beach and add your bathing suit top and some sandals and call it a day.
