Just a quick bite to remind you, not that you need the reminder, that I’m cold, you’re cold so here are some sweaters….stay warm people.
I have love-hate feelings around the winter season. Every year I am shocked I still live in this climate and haven’t yet moved to Mexico full time, I also never feel fully prepared for the arctic days to come. I hate that it gets dark earlier, it makes me feel down and frankly drink and eat more. My hair is more staticky and without fail creates an impossible yet body building rats nest under all my locks that will likely exist for the entire season. I hate that my kids never have matching socks and gloves despite all my attempts to keep track of their winter gear. Despite all those woes, I do love all the sparkly lights this season brings to the city. I love the family moments that exist in Winter. I love the thought of being elegant on ice skates, despite my reality. I love any opportunity to wear a stole. If you are serving a warm cocktail I am drinking it. I love when it is so cold outside it forces game nights and day movies because getting dressed to go outside is just not happening. I also love wearing sweaters, non-stop. Do I have a lot of sweaters? You bet. Sweaters are my lazy answer to getting dressed in the winter. The more colors and patterns, sleeve, and neck shapes I have the less I have to make my hibernating brain actually work. Barely making it to school drop off…sweater weather. Pretending to work out with my leggings…sweater weather. That cute skirt that that needs a little texture or color…sweater weather. That pantsuit you’ve worn all fall with a button down…sweater weather. Flying somewhere warm from somewhere NOT warm…sweater weather.
Layer sweaters onto sweaters, add jewelry on the top of the sleeves or around the neck to brings texture and shine to the fabric. Tuck your sweater in, I know weird but very chic. Belt your sweater. Layer button downs underneath and only give them a little air time but poking out the sleeves and collar. Play and style your sweaters in weird ways, try it all. The winter is long and we are all going to be pale well into May. So get familiar with your sweaters and don’t be afraid to get some mileage out of those beauties folded in your closet, taking up so much room.
One Sweater, many ways…
A round up of some of my favorite sweaters
xtra credit, get yourself a sweater dress or sweater skirt. Sweater skirts look great with coordinating sweaters, tissue turtlenecks, button downs and blazers. Sweater dresses look great paired with coordinating cardigans, blazers, denim jackets and fabric that contrasts the knit, like silk or nylon.
