Smarty pants Georges Claude has been attributed to the invention of the neon lighting around 1910, bringing his colored tubes to the U.S. around the 20’s and American businesses and cities quickly became obsessed with using this new form of light. The obsession with the colors outside of these glass tubes didn’t resurface until technology improved, and it became easier to use neon in fabrics and other items beyond lighting. The 80’s were the obvious era when neon was in full force-more than a trend, it helped define a culture and a time.
