Yes, another Zoom call

It’s Laundry Day and my calendar is packed with Zooms.

Does every call need to be on Zoom? Do you need to see my face for every single meeting? I am often the one that has my video off and possibly even muted. I don’t have much to say, you don’t really want to see my mug and nobody is listening to me anyway. However, many of you have asked me what to wear on your endless Zoom calls, so I’m going to try and help. If you feel like muting me, go ahead, I understand.

First up, for the Mom who has been up since 5am, cooked 3 meals in the span of 1 hour and her coffee is never enjoyed hot. For a quick and polished Zoom look try taking a slim and slightly fitted cashmere blend turtleneck (I am a sucker for navy) and tuck that baby tight into whatever bottom you pick, nobody is going to see. Comb that dirty hair back, add a red lip and a gold chain over the turtleneck and you will look like you’ve got it all under control. For a minimal look pare down your other jewelry if you style with a statement necklace.

For the person who is very busy on the Zoom, washing dishes, painting nails, reading a book… I don’t know what you are doing but instead of turning the camera off —we see the top of your head. And it is a fine head don’t get me wrong, but let’s add a little something of interest for us to all look at, ok?

Feeling like shit before you have to show your face on Zoom? Yeah, me too. My secret is to put on something maybe a little more girly than what you would normally do, I’ve never met a ruffle I didn’t like. Adding volume with your top is a fun and easy way to fill that Zoom square. The crisp white works well with any background, even that bathroom wall, I mean office. Add jeans or like the rest of us work-from-home crowd, your underwear.

Cocktail Zooming? First date Zooming? Monday morning financial Zooming? Parent teacher Zooming? Life feels weird these days so I say find any occasion or no occasion to wear a sequin blazer, add a low tank underneath, white tee or just with your bra and let your hair down. I’m not cool or fancy, I just like to look at my pretty sequin self in the Zoom window. Here I added a single drop earring but only in one ear. My expensive earring is from Dior but I split the cost with one of my besties and now she has one and I have one. It’s a modern day BFF necklace. Keep in mind many jewelry stores now sell single earrings or even mixed pairs. When that zoom call is over take your sequin blazer on a walk to the coffee shop, throw on some jeans or even a track pant. New rules, new you.

For the street Zoomer who is looking for her natural light; on the go but not missing that meeting. I get it. I have kids in pods, groceries to get, pretend things outside to do as well. Pick up a classic trench coat but in a plaid or houndstooth. The small and dense graphic pattern works well with everything from denim to neutrals to even bolder stripes. Try it with a crisp white button down, just one side of the collar up please. With a mask to match, you will look so good who cares if your wifi is in and out. Try also styling it with a neutral hoodie underneath or with your go-to Covid sweat suit for a high/low style.
